Last year, the UNLV Rebs showed that they can be a dangerous team. At the same time, UNLV showed it could be very beatable as well. Can John Robinson get rid of the schizo personality of the Rebels, and make them MWC champions?? Guess we'll find out this year. I also noticed that Coach Robinson didn't go after any Nevada recruits. How odd for a team based in Nevada.

I think UNLV will be better this year with Nantkes at QB. He came in during the 2nd half of their game @ Toledo and he played much better than Jason Thomas did. He has a much better arm and confidence that Thomas was lacking.

UNLV is in trouble when they play Toledo...
The Rockets have done a great job of representing the MAC conference with lots of quality wins over the last few seasons.

I don't think UNLV will have a problem with Toledo. UNLV has made significant improvement with John Robinson as HC.

They haven't had recent success against Toledo, though.

2002
Toledo 38
UNLV 21
Toledo led 24-0 at halftime, before we put the 2nd and 3rd teamers in.
Toledo is better than you think DawgNBama.
2000
Toledo 24
Penn State 6
2001
Toledo 38
Minnesota 7
We have a history of beating good teams.

We have a .500 record in the last 6 seasons against BCS schools, and that is with going 0-3 last season. Not many, if any other Mid-Major schools can say that!
We are 28-9 overall in the last 3 seasons, tied with Virginia Tech for 4th best in the country!

Ok, probably Toledo will give UNLV a very good game. But I still think that UNLV is poised to make some serious waves in the MWC this season. I like what I see from John Robinson.
BTW, has Toledo ever considered applying for CUSA membership? :ninja:

Toledo probably would not fit in right in Conference USA. Geographically, the closest school would probably be Cincinnati which is about a 3-4 hour drive. Most schools would be much further.
The MAC might not be as strong as C-USA top to bottom, but the talent at the top of the MAC is just as good and IMO it is better than the top of C-USA in football.
Two big drawbacks for the MAC is that we have smaller market towns and less tv exposure because of the smaller markets, and there are several teams in the MAC that are just flat out bad.
If a whole ACC/Big East shakeup happens, I would like to see Toledo put themselves in a position to join the remaining Big East teams and a few top MAC teams and a couple of C-USA teams like Cincinnati and Louisville.

Hmm, very interesting Rocketfan. I hope that things work out for the best for the Toledo Rockets.

Toledo is one of the top MAC teams year in and year out. I think Toledo wins this one handily, with or without John Robinson. IMO

Last year in the Glass bowl Bo Schembechler was on the UNLV sidelines to congratulate his buddy John Robinson on some coaching win milestone, which he didn't get. If J Rob couldn't beat the Rockets with one of the best coaches Michigan has ever had standing next to him how in the hell is he gonna do it by himself?
